Designs Overview

All Lenard Audio designs are integrated and 4-way active, providing full-fidelity* sound.

4-way active is the design function of a loudspeaker system where the signal is divided into 4 separate and dedicated registers by an electronic crossover prior to being sent to the amplifiers.  This enables the system to be transparent.

A transparent sound system is devoid of colouration and distortion, giving the listener access to fully dynamic, clear and accurate sound and music. The listener is able to hear every instrument, every sound and every word of dialogue as they would in the natural world.

Transparency and accuracy is achieved by firstly providing the full spectrum of sound audible to the human ear and then by separating this spectrum into registers that cover a maximum of 3.32 octaves (or one decade) each, therefore removing the clutter caused by inter-modulation.

Without a system being 4-way active, accessing the full scope of information cannot be achieved.

With our range of 4-way active systems covering all applications we achieve consistency and seamless integration, maintaining creative integrity across all audio platforms and in all environments. Lenard is the only audio design company to achieve this.

All Lenard designs adhere to the principles of the Lenard Audio Application Standards© and the key attributes against which all sound systems should be measured.

  1. Intelligibility and voice articulation – ensuring clarity and separation between the instruments and voices
  2. Spectral energy balance – sound balance consistent at all power levels
  3. Harmonic detail – hearing the tinkly bits
  4. Bass discernment – bass notes reproduced evenly
  5. Directivity control – broadening the stereo “sweet spot”

Modern digital recording and storage technology allows for virtually unlimited dynamic range and bandwidth in reference to human hearing. Our systems replicate the full dynamic range without limitation ensuring that from recording through to reproduction at any scale and in any environment, the realism and intended experience of the creators is maintained.

All sound and music creators aim for their recorded music to be fully transparent, including full dynamic range and bandwidth. At Lenard Audio, we work to ensure this goal is realised.

*Full-fidelity refers to a quality level for audio above what is typically expected from high-fidelity. We make this distinction with the aim to demonstrate the extent to which the full audible frequency spectrum is properly reproduced with 4-way active design. It is only by properly reproducing the full audible frequency spectrum that realism of sound can be genuinely achieved.
