Welcome
Imagine, if you will, a listening experience that challenges reality

Well if you enjoy movies on the big screen, great music, special effects and fantastic sound, then this web-site is for you. Here you will find out how Lenard unfolds a whole new dimension of possibilities for the world of cinema.........totally transforming your level of enjoyment.

It has been said that all film-makers have a dream, and that dream is for you, their audience
"......... when your motion picture experience is so real, so embracing, so enjoyable, that you actually become part of their film...... then you will have fully entered the dream of life

So it is with incredible skill, creativity and passion, that many films are produced with amazing sound tracks. Why ? The answer is simple. Creators of great films know that sound is at least 50% of the motion picture experience !

Yet the majority of the world, and that probably includes you, never get to experience the beauty, emotional stirring and impact of these sound tracks. Visually, particularly in the area of special effects, there have been awesome advancements over the last 20 years. However the final delivery of sound into the cinema has remained locked in the past.

For the first time in history, a sound system has been designed from the ground up especially for cinema. Importantly, the charter for this design was to fully deliver the second half of the motion picture experience (sound) to audiences, and to help realize the film-maker's dream - that of a near virtual reality experience !

In a sense, Lenard represents one of the world's most sophisticated and largest hi-fidelity systems, with preferred installation embracing many of the key housekeeping standards of THX, with the result that audiences experience the fullest potential of each sound track no matter which encoding method is used (such as DOLBY & DTS)

Best of all, this technology is cost effective for cinema owners, and has been specially designed to allow retro-fitting behind existing screens.

We are dedicated to the transformation of cinema sound as we know it today.   Detailed information is available on the Cinema sound education page

Welcome
Synesthesia.   This marvelous phenomenon from within our imagination can integrate sound and picture into a 3D perception.   Capturing of one of our senses (sound) into a 3D experience carries the other senses with it, giving the picture also a 3D perception.   From watching the film we are now carried into the story adventure and included within it.

What you can expect, when you experience a film within the Lenard Sound Envelope.

. Crystal clear dialog -The full quality and timbre of each and every voice, is faithfully reproduced to the fullest extent possible allowed by the production of the film.

. The very best, most uniform distribution of sound possible - Throughout the entire cinema, no matter where you sit, the sound is fabulous. (Most existing systems have a small "sweet spot" where the sound is "as good as it gets", and many other areas of the cinema experience lobing, uneven, distorted and non-uniform sound).

. Incredible detail in all aspects of the film sound track - You will be able to experience the entire range of intricate sounds that are present in the sound track. This is as real as it gets.

. Drastically reduced auditory fatigue - because of the extremely low distortion and inherent flat frequency response of the Lenard system (even without any equalization), you will not suffer from the auditory fatigue so common with most cinema sound systems.

. Total enjoyment of all the well produced music within the film - In effect, you are listening to one of the world's most sophisticated and largest hi-fidelity sound reproduction systems. Music, in-particular, comes alive and you actually "experience" as well as hear it.

. Wonderful perception of depth and dimension within the film.

. Exhilaration with special effects, particularly synchronised sound effects - Fast moving scenes, explosions, space travel, car-chases, earth-shaking dinosaurs right through to gentle dream scapes full of emotive music will have the fullest impact possible (allowing for sound level constraints and production quality of the film).

. Cinesthesia - you will literally enter the film as there is no "apparent" separate sound system. In fact the sound will appear to be part of the visual picture.

. Maximum enjoyment possible of films released especially for the cinema. -This is mainly because so much effort, time and money is put into the production of sound within these films.

. An experience of films at the cinema which goes "way" beyond that which is possible in the home (even with the most sophisticated home theatre system.

. A real desire to watch and experience more and more films at a cinema with a Lenard sound system. - This may seem like a strange statement, but imagine for a moment if you will, the possibility of really enjoying a much wider range of films than you currently see, simply because a part of them that was missing has now been given life ! i.e. you will now be able to "experience" the films.

Finally, with outstanding film productions, you will fully experience the incredibly moving emotions so carefully woven into the film by its creators.

Remember, the Lenard experience was created for you !

Welcome
3D Virtual Reality Sound
K4 cinema

This large scale K4 system generates a plane wave front   and projects the sound field into the audience.   This sound technology provides the ultimate experience for the younger audience (regardless of age) to be beamed up and blown away.   Ideally suited for large cinemas and theme park application.

Cinemas achieving audiophile status
Opals cinema

The Opal systems   provide the highest level of fidelity and accuracy.   The Opals are possibly the best monitoring systems in the world.   The four-way active principles of the Opals evolved from the cinema industry.   These principles were defined 50 years ago, but were seen as too difficult and costly to implement.   The Opal technology honours the original engineers who defined this direction, as the ultimate solution.

Welcome
All Lenard systems   are pre-calibrated for free field.   When the system is installed, the balancing procedure is done with pink noise as per convention.   Each of the frequency bands may have to be adjusted to achieve a flat energy response in the room.   The procedure is logged.   This logging provides information for comparisons if the cinema room is to be acoustically treated.

Cinemas that bite the bullet, putting in proper acoustical treatment will have a decisive market edge.

=Music   is then played from a referenced digital film track, and the system is re-calibrated by ear to bring it back to maximum listening enjoyment.   Surprisingly the Lenard systems will sound best when returned closer to free field alignment, regardless of room reverberation.

Sub bass .1:   At present the (.1 sub-bass) is sent to an independent amplifier and single sub-woofer speaker.   The (.1 sub-bass) evolved as an add-on, because of the traditional left-centre-right speakers being unable to re-produce deep bass.

With the Lenard systems the (.1 sub-bass)   is electronically remixed with the ( Left. Centre. Right.) with its own gain control.   The (.1 sub-bass) is delivered from all 4 way-active systems, providing vastly greater impact.   The acceptance of the (.1 sub-bass) being electronically re-mixed may be difficult to understand at first, but when fully thought through, is a more coherent and correct procedure of management.

Special Note

Cinema is successful   because the picture appears to have no boundary when viewed on the big wide screen.   So why not remove the boundary of low fidelity sound systems, and make the sound as big as the picture in terms of experience.

Imagine being in a rain forest   and very attentive to the sounds around you, hearing subtlety of detail, which extends into infinity.   Record this, go home and play it back on a small stereo.   It will only be recognizable because of remembering.   But without remembering it would be un-recognisable.

Turning up the volume   of a traditional cinema sound system does not make it sound real.   Sound is made real by removing the boundary of limited fidelity sound systems, and stepping into large-scale   four-way active   electro-acoustic technology.   Only then does the auditory detail and beauty of the rain forest re-appear.

Disclaimer -   The above is understandably dependent on sound production quality of the film, and acoustic treatment of the cinema.   The better these aspects are the more enjoyable the Lenard virtual reality 3D experience will be.   Detailed information is on the Cinema sound education page
